Tree platforms for teaching and research

In 2014, Lynx Guimond and Dr. Gotsch with the help of a lot of friends, installed two platforms in a little patch of forest in an organic coffee plantation in San Luis, Costa Rica (Sanctuario del Jardín). The goal was to create a center where our students could train in tree climbing techniques, and where we could receive student groups. The small platform is at 85 feet and is used as a resting place after students make their first big climb. The large platform is looking more and more like a treehouse every day. The field crew sleeps here during our annual tree camp at the beginning of the season and we have high school groups that visit as well to learn about canopy ecology.
